Sure, but I didn't just ask about root beer. I also asked about
sarsaparilla, the beverage--or the extract with which one could
make the beverage. I think I need to look at older material to
find what I am looking for--and whatever I find won't be tried and
true. At least I did find a semi-local place where I can probably
get all of the ingredients.

P.S. I apologize for dismissing this so readily. The links are
interesting and, if followed for a while, they may lead to
something of interest. I also note the comment re artificial
sassafras. I try to avoid such things, so I guess I will see
which is stronger: my desire to make such beverages or my dislike
of artificial ingredients. Also of interest is the mention of
soap bark and other ingredients that were once commonly used in
carbonated beverages but then were viewed with some disdain.
